About the role

Reporting to Head of Platform, the Java Developer will work within Open Energi’s growing Technology team to develop the functions and capabilities of the IoT software platform, produce software components and features core to the platform and configuration templates specific to sites/projects and maintain the IoT platform to ensure maximum uptime, stability and performance.

You’ll do this by:

•       Develop core software components using Java

•       Develop UI components using JavaScript, HTML and CSS

•       Produce site specific configuration templates for new projects

•       Maintain platform stability and performance through bug fixing and version updates

•       Work closely with other members of the Technology team to ensure the IoT platform meets all necessary business requirements in a timely manner

•       Work closely with the Operations team to support on-site activities and issues

Initially, this role is intended to be primarily remote working with occasional visits to our London office as required or desired. We will discuss your preferences when we invite you to interview. We aim to be as flexible as possible while retaining high levels of cohesion within the team.

What you’ll bring:

We’re looking for someone who has a solid understanding of object-oriented programming, specifically Java, and user interface programming, using JavaScript. Ideally they will have experience with the Tridium Niagara 4 framework otherwise training can be provided. They should be happy working hands-on and collaboratively.

Required:

•       Excellent Java programming skills acquired through commercial experience

•       Proficient with JavaScript, HTML and CSS

•       Experience with build tools such as Gradle

•       Experience with unit testing frameworks such as TestNG

Desirable:

•       Tridium Niagara 4 Developer and/or Technical Certification Program certified or relevant experience

•       Experience with and developing for industrial, real-time control systems and IoT

Open Energi welcomes new CEO

Open Energi is pleased to announce the appointment of Andy Rees as Chief Executive Officer from April 6th.

Andy brings nearly 20 years of experience working in the energy sector across a variety of senior roles within technology development and deployment.  He joins Open Energi from LYTT, a real-time sensor software and analytics solution provider and another progressive bp Launchpad company. At LYTT, Andy held the positions of Chief Operating Officer and board observer and was responsible for commercial operations and delivery.  With a keen focus on the customer, he has an established track record of leading agile, evolving businesses to commercial success.

Andy joins Open Energi during an exciting period as it seeks opportunities to scale up, exploring how it can work with bp’s trading & shipping business and low carbon portfolio as they look to meet their net zero ambitions. 

Prior to LYTT, Andy held several senior positions across bp, where he played a pivotal role in modernising and transforming their approach to upstream technologies and led research and evaluation programmes for enhancing recovery.

Andy holds a PhD in Chemical Engineering from the University of Cambridge and a Masters in Chemical Engineering (MEng) from University College London.  He is a Chartered Chemical Engineer.
